About This Breeder

Stargazer Bernese is a small, home-based preservation program in Woodland Park, Colorado. We make breeding decisions with health, temperament, structure, and working ability in mind. Our dogs live in our home as part of our family. Our puppies are raised using Puppy Culture alongside our detailed, age-appropriate developmental plan. We give them thoughtful introductions to handling, grooming, household life, new experiences, and early training. We’re building a foundation their families can continue at home. Our commitment continues throughout each dog’s life. We welcome questions and updates, offer ongoing support, and provide a lifetime take-back commitment. No puppies are currently available. Our next litter is tentatively planned for fall 2027. Timing may change, and a planned litter does not guarantee puppy availability. We match puppies with families based on temperament, lifestyle, and individual needs. Completing our puppy questionnaire begins a conversation; it does not reserve a puppy or establish a place in a first-come, first-served queue. We don’t ship puppies. Families should plan to meet us and collect their puppy in person. To learn more about our dogs, raising practices, and application process, visit stargazerbernese.com.

We built Stargazer around a simple responsibility: every decision - from choosing a breeding through a puppy's first eight weeks - should help give that puppy the strongest foundation we can provide.

Q&A with this breeder

How are your animals raised?

Our puppies are raised using Puppy Culture alongside our detailed, age-appropriate plan from birth through eight weeks. They begin in a whelping area and move into a larger space as they grow. Their daily experiences include gentle handling, body and paw care, nail and grooming exposure, and gradual introductions to different surfaces, scents, sounds, people, household items, and equipment. As they’re ready, they also experience outdoor play, car rides, leash exposure, and early training.

What do you prioritize in temperament?

We value a temperament that is self-confident, alert, and good-natured, never sharp or shy. We want our Berners to be affectionate with their families, confident with new experiences, and willing to engage and learn. Our goal is a dog who enjoys activity and training with their people, then settles comfortably at home.

What do you prioritize in health?

Health guides our breeding decisions. Our testing includes hips, elbows, eyes, heart, degenerative myelopathy, von Willebrand disease, and histiocytic sarcoma risk. We use Embark, Antagene, and BetterBred to inform our decisions. Thyroid testing is performed when an individual dog needs it. We consider test results alongside the individual dog and family history to manage risk and support the breed’s long-term health.

What kind of homes are you looking for?

We’re looking for homes that want a Bernese Mountain Dog as a lifelong family companion and understand the commitment of a large, intelligent, heavy-coated breed. Families should be ready to invest in training, socialization, grooming, exercise, and care, and to include their dog in daily life. Our puppies are placed as companions, though families may pursue activities such as obedience, rally, drafting, or other interests.
